time line to complete, but will provide a paved road to Santa Fe near
Castle Rock in the future.

Dept. both 8/15 6:30-9:00 PM at Sedalia Elementary School and 8/29

Trails Update:
- East-West Trail addition completed this summer from Rocky Height Middle School on Monarch heading south to Coyote Ridge School in Castle Pines
North. The tunnel under Monarch is messy and we will ask about lights for
it.
- Hidden Mesa Open Space is a combined 1200 acre parcel with
~7 miles of soft surface trails. There is also access to the Cherry
Creek Trail which bisects the property and trail. The trail head is
located one mile north of Franktown on the west side of Hwy. 83. Map at www.douglas.co.us/openspace/Hidden_Mesa
- Spruce Meadow and Spruce Mountain Trails are also soft
surface mtn. bike trails near the Greenland Trail in southern Douglas County exit #167 off I-25 and Spruce Mountain road south of Larkspur. Map at www.douglas.co.us/openspace/SpruceMountain
- Douglas County Public Works Dept has proposed new roadways
network for north-central Douglas County that will connect Castle Pines
North to Parker. No time line has been published on these new roads.
Bicycle Douglas County Bike Map:
- Judy Siel had an hour long meeting with Robert Kenny,
Traffic Engineer for Douglas County earlier this summer. Douglas County is in the process of hiring a consultant for the 2030 Transportation Plan
that is being finalized this fall. We discussed a joint venture relating
to bicycles and producing a map that will highlight roads traffic volumes,
shoulders and speed. BDC will help provide data as to roads with
shoulders, width and routes frequented by cyclists & bike trails.
This joint venture will have Douglas County doing the GIS data & map production;
this project may take ~18 months. Looks like a win-win situation for both
groups to do a quality map together and reduces the amount of $ BDC needs
to raise.
Financial Report:
- $255 donations from June Bike to Work promo at Whole Foods
and July 4th Bike Parking event. BDC balance $1500.
Issues/Concerns/Other:
- Cherry Hills Community Church bike group organizing a
cyclocross race for November 10th. BDC has been invited to
sponsor either the Kiddie Kross race or the Citizen race and have a booth
at this event.
- Bicycle Pedal’r Cycling Club organized this year. Their
goals is to have community out-reach programs, donation to the Children’s
Hospital, education, sponsor a racing event or charity ride in the next
few years.
- Highlands Ranch Metro District did a C-470 trail monitor
of the trail crossing at Erickson Blvd this past weekend and only 8% of
bicyclists “stopped” at the crossing. They are concerned that this is a
serious accident waiting to happen at this newly paved road. As the
retirement community is built and occupied there will be increased traffic
with older drivers and the soon to be opened Plaza Drive will also
increase traffic volume. If you are biking please “STOP” and look both
ways since the street does not have any stop and bikes do not have the
right of way at this location. Remember you must follow the “Rules of the
Road” and we encourage you to be good examples to other bicyclists
Next meeting is November 12th at 7:00 PM
