Bicycle Douglas County Minutes
5/14/07
Earth Day booth at Whole Foods was very successful and a Whole Foods donated $200 to BDC. Whole Foods has invited BDC to host another booth in June to promote Bike to Work day. Date selected by group: Sat June 16th. Don Natwick will host the booth the last 2 hours and Judy will look for volunteer to host the first 2 hours.
July 4th Parade in Highlands Ranch. BDC was invited to participate. Will find out details of the theme and advertise to our group to join us riding bikes in the short parade around Highlands Ranch town center area. We ill also be doing bike parking at the HRCA celebration and they have our logo on the website advertising bike parking availability. Janet & Judy will man the parking and we will look for more volunteers.
Website Update: Bernie Johnson will be doing our update. We are assessing using Paypal for memberships. Paul Marks will get the details and cost.
Bicycle Map Update: Judy spoke with Larry Corcoran re: GIS and Larry will check out the progress with our access to the GIS. Larry also would like to meet with Janet & Judy about bike routes. Douglas County will be hiring a Bike Planner/Coordinator in the Public Works Dept. They will advertise this position after the Master Plan is completed. We need to get quotes & information on correct amount to charge for bike shops ads on the bike map. Still need to find funding for the bike map ~$5,000 est. to produce a quality 4 color map. BDC will do some research on the bet way to sale the maps through bike stores.
Shoulder initiative: BDC invited all 3 Douglas County Commissioners for a bike ride on 5/12 and they all declined invite. Rampart Range Rd south of Waterton will be repaved and restripped to include shoulders. Land on the south side to Titan recently bought by “Sterling Ranch”. This group hopes to develop the land into homes, but hasn’t been cleared by the planning commission yet. Eventually Titan will need 4 lanes and then it will get shoulders when the developer funds this improvement. Douglas County Public Works will not fund any improvements on this road.
Issues/Concerns: BDC needs to add Bike Source to our brochures as sponsors.
Next meeting is August 13th at 7:00 PM
