Thunderhead Alliance Training weekend:
Janet Slate & Judy Siel attended a 3 day-20 hour training session hosted by Thunderhead Alliance: “Campaign Planning”. Everyone started with 3 potential campaigns and worked through a checklist and then selected one for the weekend workshop. Janet & Judy selected making a complete Douglas County Bike Map. The 7 steps to having a successful campaign are:
1) Define your issue
2) Set goals
3) Assess Resources
4) Strategize
5) Communicate
6) Set Tactics & Timelines
7) Manage Resources
The “bike map” blueprint was completed at the workshop and ready for implementation. We just need volunteers to step up and help.
Campaigns for Bicycle Douglas County:
This blueprint can be applied to any campaign and implemented. Looking back on our original top priority goals from ’03 and which are still vital-BDC voted to work on these 3 campaigns in the future via the blueprint:
Bike map/master plan for Douglas County
North/South bike route in the county
Shoulders on Titan/Rampart Roads
These are all medium to long-term goals and working through the blueprint may take 2-4 years for each.
At our next meeting in November BDC members will begin laying out the blueprint for getting shoulders on Titan/Rampart roads. Next steps for the blueprint/campaign for the bike map that was laid out at the Thunderhead Alliance training weekend: fund raising & newspaper articles. Please bring examples of bike maps and have ~ costs of developing and printing maps to the next meeting, information on applying for grants & selling advertising. (In the next year we will then lay out the 3rd blueprint for getting a north/south bike route in Douglas County.)
Be prepared to work through the workbook and get involved at our next meeting on November 13th at 7:00 pm.
