Guest speakers:
Mark Giebel from HRCA: Back County Wilderness Area will have ~5 miles of mountain bike trails that have up to8-10% grade in the bluffs area off of Monarch Blvd. These trails will connect to existing trials and will be open ~July 1st. Temporary parking lot off of Monarch until connections to the existing trails are completed. Back County Area trails will be closed 1/1 – 3/31 every year for the wildlife winter habitat. If raptor nests are identified the trails may also have temporary closures. HRCA trails are for Highlands Ranch residents only. Cyclists and pedestrians will need to carry their HRCA cars. No dogs will be allowed and everyone must stay on the trails. Back County area will need volunteers to help monitor use.
Rich from HRMD: HRMD is constructing a new trail to connect the East-West trail to Griggs/Poston ~1.5 miles long. CDOT is currently repairing the Centennial Trail east of University with overlay asphalt. Sections of the Centennial Trail west of University will be replaced this year.
Dave Evans from Bike Jeffco update:
· New shoulders ~4’ will be installed on Deer Creek Canyon from Ute to Phillipsburg this summer.
· Conifer to Evergreen will also get shoulders over the next 2 years.
· CDOT added shoulders from Morrison to Evergreen but they are intermittent
· Jefferson County is committed to adding shoulders on the Golden Gate road up to the county boundary.
· Currently asking CDOT for shoulders on #72 between #93 and Peak-Peak highway and on #93 between #128 and Rocky Flats.
· Mapping the C-470 trail west of Chatfield to get at grade crossing at Wadsworth, instead of the chronic flooded tunnel.
· Central City Hwy is open to bikes now.
· Wish list for future: extending the C-470 trail from Rooney Road to get to Indiana is on the wish list. Also want a trail from Genesee to Evergreen Parkway, instead of biking on I-70. Clear Creek County wants to repave Echo Lake to Bergan Park but doesn’t have any money, so applying for Scenic Byway and funding to improve the roadway. Promoting bike trails that parallel Fast Tracks from Denver to Golden and Arvada.
Door prizes from Bicycle Pedal’r given away!!
