Guest Speakers:
Dennis Trapp, Recreation Dept. & Project Manager from town of Parker and
Bryce Matthews, Planner from town of Parker. The recreation dept. implements
outcome of Bryce’s planning throughout Parker. They have many miles of hard
and soft surface trails and are working to add missing connections (maps of
their regional trails distributed). Parker Recreation Dept will be organizing
the 2nd annual Parker Mainstreet Criterium again; date is 7/16/05
with $10,000 prize money. The Parker trail master plan has been developed and
they will be starting on a “bike lane” master plan next. Bryce and Dennis
handed out their Executive Summary for Parker’s Open space, Trails and
Greenways and water bottles to everyone present at the meeting. The Cherry
Creek Trail is completed within Parker’s city limits. They are on a committee
with reps from adjoining jurisdiction that meets every 2-3 months to discuss
and work on completion for the Cherry Creek trail both north & south of
Parker. This year they will be adding historical, ecological, and maps signs
along Parker’s trails.
Update from Douglas
County Public Works: Judy Siel met with Larry Corcoran (traffic
engineer) and Carlos (maintenance manager) last week for over 1.5 hours.
- The reconstruction at Quebec/Lincoln was reviewed and lack
of shoulders/bike lane was addressed, but Public Works is unable to solve
due to lack of space when they added the NW &NE continuous right hand
turn/acceleration lanes. Biking this intersection remains unsafe according
to many cyclists.
- Monarch Blvd will finally be re-striped this spring and
they agreed to widen the shoulder from Daniels Gate to Castle Pines
Parkway by 1-2 feet on booth sides of the road (they will narrow the
painted medium, but less where there are left turn lanes).
- “Share the Road” signs will be added throughout the county
roads below the yellow diamond “bike” signs on 10 roads that BDC listed as
popular routes needing “STR” signage last year.
- There is a disagreement between Douglas County Public Works
& CDOT about changes planned for C-470 widening/toll lanes, but Judy
talked with many consultants on both sides of the issue in the last 24
hours and received assurances that the bike trail remains in ALL plans,
but it may be repositioned due to the widening.
Brochure project:
group added a sheet into all our BDC brochures about new meeting room site
starting in June ’05. Now we need to collect any old ones and re-distribute
brochures around the county bike shops, libraries and rec. centers. Contact
Judy Siel if you can help with this job in the next few weeks at: judy@bicycledougalscounty.org.
