Bicycle
Douglas County
10/1/04 Meeting Minutes
·
Guest Speaker: Alan Brown P.E.
Senior Project
Manager with PBSJ
Consultant for CDOT on the C-470 Corridor Project gave an
update for the 4 alternatives that have gone forward for recommendation for
CDOT. The bike trail will be maintained in all the plans, but may be
reconstructed on the south side of C-470 between the Highline Canal and Quebec because there is more right of way space on the south side. Comments that if
they put barriers or sound wall between the trail and the highway that it would
be less shady if the trail is on the south side and hopefully less snow and ice
in the winter. The C-470 project does not plan to redo the trail as part of
the budget, but parts may have to be moved to make room for 8 lanes that are
being proposed. Douglas county will be looking at making some of the
intersections a separated grade crossing after CDOT finalizes their plans. The
intersection at Santa Fe will probably be done before the rest since it is such
a bottleneck and Douglas County is already securing funding to improve traffic
flow. This will have a separated grade crossing!!
- Velo Swap is Oct 23rd; Bicycle Douglas County will have a booth in the advocacy area, so stop by and say “Hello”. If you have
paid BDC dues for ’04 and not picked up your T-shirt yet, you can get
yours at our Velo Swap booth.
- New brouchures for BDC will be printed before Velo Swap.
Member benefits for 10% discount at Bicycle Pedal’r will be added to the
revised version.
- Member survey shows that we should keep meetings on Monday

this winter at our meetings.

members to write letters to the editor at the weekly Thursday papers in
the next few weeks if you support any bike friendly candidates or you can send
your opinions to BDC at judy@bicycledouglascounty.org
if you want us to share them via our email network. We encourage everyone
to vote in the upcoming election!! Remember you can make a difference by
voting for those candidates who support bicyclists.
- Bicycle Pedal’r would like to organize a day next May to
get families on the bikes on the trails in Highlands Ranch. They are
