Meeting minutes for Sept.15, 2003

Dave Evans from Bike Jeffco was our guest speaker.  Bike Jeffco was formed in 1999 to represent the bike traffic on Deer Creek Canyon. To get shoulders and bike trails built, Bike Jeffco recommends that advocacy groups write letters and go to county meetings. The group is now developing a bike map of their area, rating roads based on amount of traffic, shoulders, and road condition; it will also show rest areas and shelters and elevation gain.  Bike Jeffco will be selling this map to raise money for their advocacy group when it is completed.

Judy Siel presented a 5-minute power point slide show to the Highlands Ranch Development Review Committee on 9-3-03.  They requested a “Position Statement” from Bicycle Douglas County to review and then endorse our group.  A rough draft of our position statement was reviewed and changes suggested.

The trail clean-up day on 9/7/03 went very well.  The group decided to have 3 “trail clean-up” days/year.  Chatfield State Park was notified of need to decrease the berm edge that forces debris into the trail.  Next trail cleanup we need to take pictures to document improvements and post on our web site.

Janet Slate, Judy & Barry Siel manned the Chatfield Aid station during Park-to-Park Ride on 9-13-03.  It was good exposure for the group and they adjusted helmets in addition to handing out food and beverages for this Bicycle Colorado Ride.

Web site progress:  Gary Herbella will take over developing our web site.  Discussion about going with cheaper pop up web hosting site vs. no pop up adds.  Bicycledouglascounty.org site will be coming this month, thanks to Gary’s efforts (after our first web developer disappeared).
