BDC Favorite Bike Routes in Douglas County

 

1 Palmer Lake Northern Loop

Palmer Lake north to Wolfensberger Rd. on Hwy 105; Wolfensberger Rd. east to Castle Rock; go south on the west frontage road for I-25 to Tomah Rd; go west on Tomah to Hwy 105 and then south on 105 to Larkspur turnoff (via Perry Park), go east to Larkspur and back west to Hwy 105 via Fox Farm Rd; south on 105 back to Palmer Lake. Moderate, miles ???45-50.  Ed Susman.

2 Highlands Ranch to Roxborough Loop Highlands Ranch/University go west on C-470 bike trail to Chatfield Res; follow road around Chatfield to exit on Roxborough Rd (south end); go west on Titan Rd. to Rampart Range Rd.; go south to Waterton Road; go west and curve north to Wadsworth Blvd.; go north on Wadsworth to the west entrance into Chatfield Res; following the road back east through Chatfield and the C-470 trail to University.  Miles 35.  Difficulty mod.     Judy Siel.
3 Castle Rock Out and Back Castle Rock Plum Creek Exit #181.  Park at the Safeway ˝ mile east of exit.  Bike east on Plum Creek to the stop sign at Lake Gulch Rd, turn right and follow road SE till stop sign at CO 83.  Return same route.  Miles 20.  Hilly terrain, difficulty mod.  Judy Siel
4 Parker to Castle Rock Loop via Parker Rd Parker and Main St:  Bike from Main Street west to Motsenbocker Rd go south; to CrowfootValley Rd. bike SW to Founders Pkwy go south to Hwy #86 (Hwy # 86 heavy traffic and no shoulders.); bike east through Franktown up to Flint Rd; go north to Hilltop and back west to Parker/Main St.  Miles: 36; moderate. 5 Parker to Castle Rock Out and Back  Parker and Main St. Bike west on Main Street to Motsenbocker to Crowfoot to Founders Pkwy and return same route. Miles: 23, Easy,  Paul Headden.
6 Greenland Open Space
(Off-Road)
Greenland Open Space Trail: I-25 south to Exit #167 go west around bend in the road to the Open Space Parking area. 8 mile loop: hilly terrain on the east half and flat on the west.  Crushed rock surface.  Connects to the Santa Fe Trail (crushed gravel trail) in Palmer Lake for destination south into El Paso County via County Line Rd for ˝ mile west to Palmer Lake Park.  Irina Donaldson.
7 Larkspur
(Off-Road)
East Upper Lake Gulch Rd: Park at Larkspur Park (I-25 exit #173) and go back to I-25 and turn right onto East Upper Lake Gulch Rd.  Bike east of I-25 for rolling coaster terrain after the first 4 miles of gentle climbing and terrific views of Pikes Peak; go north on Gorton road to Lake Gulch Road. Miles 14, dirt road for most of route.  Route by Irina Donaldson.
8 Highlands Ranch through Castle Pines North Partial Loop Start at Highlands Ranch Pkwy and Wildcat Reserve:  Bike SE on Wildcat Reserve up to Macarthur Ranch Rd, go right; to Monarch Blvd turn right; go south till Buffalo Ridge Rd; go right to Castle Pines Pkwy. Turn left on Castle Pines; bike east to Charter Oaks (stop light near Montessori school) and turn left.  Follow Charter Oaks west and then north on Coventry and west on Oakwood Ln, (at every T intersection go left staying on roads that have a double yellow stripe line). At top of last hill go left on Heather Dr.  to dead-end cul-de-sac and  bike/walk 50 yards of single track into Castle Pines North homes.   Turn left on Briar Ridge Dr.  Follow this till it reaches Monarch Blvd and then retrace route to Highlands Ranch.  Miles 28.  Moderate, hilly terrain.  Route by Judy Siel.
